When you relocate to Belgium with a vehicle purchased abroad, the applicable tax regulations and customs formalities depend on the country you are coming from.
If you are coming from an EU country, once the vehicle has entered Belgium you must declare it at a Belgian customs office of your choice. Documents to be produced: original of the foreign registration certificate and application for vehicle registration (i.e. the pink form issued free of charge by insurance companies, vehicle testing stations and the D.I.V. (Vehicle Registration Directorate)). Before returning the application form to you, Customs will apply revenue stamp 705 to it and validate box W.
If the country you are coming from is not an EU Member State and you have used the vehicle there for less than six months, you will have to pay import duty and VAT.
You must have your driving licence, registration certificate and insurance certificate (green form) with you on any car journey. For cars more than four years old you must also be able to produce the technical inspection certificate. The car must also contain a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher (make sure it is still valid!) and damage form. If you move house, the local authority must also amend your registration certificate.
